15 years ago, if you claimed your phone was spying on you for advertisements or other purposes you would be a conspiracy theorist. Today it is just an accepted reality.
The dreamy landscapes of Charlie Davoli
resemble snapshots from a parallel universe. Yet they all come from the
hands of the artist, who literally creates unreal worlds by shooting
pictures with his iPhone and then editing them with apps like PsTouch,
iDesign, Superimpose, Matter, and Mextures. He then posts his
fascinating photo collages on Instagram.
Davoli was born in Singapore, but through “a bizarre twist of fate,” at
the age of six moved to the homeland of his father, a small town on the
Italian peninsula of Salento. His work manifests the fusion of these
two cultures in the form of duality: Davoli goes on a Wes Anderson-like
way with balance and composition, so that the elements almost always
align with each other. Ultimately, his works symbolize two worlds that
mirror each other.
Visual paradoxes, perfect symmetry, and optical illusion play an
important role for the photo artist. Davoli says, “My inspiration comes
from a combination of the supernatural images from the Italian artist De
Chirico, my love for geometry of Bauhaus, and the pop culture of Warhol
and Lichtenstein… And all with a touch of retro sci-fi. ” Txt via Creators Project
“Researchers found that self-worth is actually a predictive and not an outcome variable for success and well-being in life domains such as relationships, work, and health. This is saying that self-worth predicts success and it’s not success that dictates self-worth. This has amazing implications - your self-worth is not determined by your accomplishments or failures, rather your success or failure is dictated by your levels of self-worth.”
